Municipal elections 2021 - THEMES

Welfare of children and young people

It is worth investing in children and young people. Small group sizes, adequate adult time, and student welfare staff prevent exclusion. Equality in education and resources for basic education must be safeguarded when the extension of compulsory education and the health and social services reform materializes. The quality and accessibility of early childhood education must be maintained.

We need to fix schools and kindergartens! New facilities are needed at a rapid pace and the investment program needs to be implemented quickly to reduce repair debt. Sufficiency of temporary relocations must also be taken into account. We need support for young people, summer jobs, quality school food and good indoor air. Action should be taking against bullying in every school and high quality afternoon care should be guaranteed for all first- and second-graders.

Early childhood education, teaching and services for children and young people will be the main areas of work for municipal decision-makers if the health and social services reform will materialize.

Functional basic services

The quality and availability of health services must be ensured in changes of health and social services. Youth work, sports services and cultural services increase well-being. Efforts must be made to improve well-being of those working with children, young people, the elderly and the disabled. Adequate resources and good management are the keys here. In elderly services, more time and hands are needed for home care. An elderly person who can no longer manage at home must receive the help and accommodation they need in time.

Prevention of social exclusion

The mechanisms of inequality need to be addressed. No young person should fall outside of education and working life. Young people have paid a lot for the distance brought by the corona virus. A year is a long time for a young person. The proportion of the population with an immigrant background is growing, and the opportunity for everyone to become active members of society must be secured. Every child should have the opportunity to have a hobby. Young people need to be involved in decision-making.

Biodiversity and climate change prevention

Nature is the basis of all economic activity and the physical and mental well-being of people. Everyday choices in both homes and workplaces matter. The ecological, economic and social sustainability of society must be ensured. The implementation of the climate program must proceed rapidly, with the goal of carbon-free Espoo! Public transport needs to be improved despite metro concerns. The future is thought of in the green municipality!

Entrepreneurship and employment

Improving operational conditions for small and medium-sized enterprises is the best employment and economic policy. Without functioning companies, society will not be able to finance welfare services. Everyone must have an opportunity and obligation to participate in working life according to their abilities. Success in this requires individual support in finding a job. Equality of people is the starting point from which to build a functional, caring and multicultural Espoo.

Glory for culture and everyone’s voice heard

Culture delights, comforts and evokes new ideas. The cultural sector is also a major employer, let’s keep its operating conditions in order. It is good to live in Espoo when we get everyone involved in the cooperation, namely companies, associations and residents. Decision-making must be inclusive, open and transparent!
